International French School of Kathmandu is listed as a French school located outside the territory of French Republic and has the official status of “French School Abroad”. It is part of the Agency for French Education Abroad network (AEFE) which has almost 500 schools located in 130 countries around the world and more than 342 000 students.
EFIK follows the French curriculum. As such, it is approved by the French Ministry of Education.
The school is under the pedagogical supervision of the following French authorities :
- in Kathmandu : the French Ambassador in Nepal;
- in Singapore : the inspector of Education of the Asia-Pacific zone ;
- in Paris : the French Ministry of Education and AEFE
International French School of Kathmandu operates as an association; parents of all enrolled children are considered members of the Parents’ Association.
The school is governed by a Management Committee and its bureau (governing board). The Bureau is composed of a president, a secretary, and a treasurer. The Management Committee includes the members of the Bureau, parents’ representatives (elected by all parents at the General Assembly held at the beginning of each school year), staff representatives, the school principal, as well as the Ambassador of France in Nepal or his/her Deputy chief.
The role of the board is to ensure the proper financial, administrative and physical operation of the school. The Management Committee holds monthly regular meetings.
