Children are expected to stay all day, however the younger ones may come only in the morning to begin with. If it is the first time at school for the child, parents are welcome until 9am to give support.
From October, children will have to be left at the class entrance so they can build their independence and learn their limits. Kindergarten helps the children to progress from their family setting to the school setting. This progression is facilitated by the competence of teachers and the way the class is managed. The class schedule respects the children’s biorhythm and the younger ones are allowed to nap.
In Kindergarten, the children build the basis of the skills necessary to learning through 5 themes for the activities:
- Language in learning
- Living together
- Expression with the body
- Sensitivity, imagination creativity
- Discovering the world
The child will then start to acquire cross-disciplinary skills:
- Attention
- Methods
- Organisation
- Memorisation
By the end of Kindergarten, the child will know in French and in English how to:
- Communicate collectively by waiting for his turn to speak
- Describe a situation or an action, and make a puppet speak
- Understand, remember and invent stories, sing children songs
- Understand what the different writing mediums are for (books, screen, panel, newspaper, etc.)
- Speak and tell by mastering and structuring his language
- Understand the rhythmic and sonorous qualities of his language, and produces rhymes and assonances
- Write his name, copy words and hold a pen properly
